SE1’s New Music Venue Opens This Week
SE1 is fast becoming London’s foodie postcode-to-know. Borough Market, Maltby St Market and Mercato Metropolitano all operate harmoniously in the area. But there’s a new hub in town and it’s set to become the destination for new music too.
From 20th October, Flat Iron Square, a small space situated in the heart of Bankside will open it’s doors to the public. Consisting of just six railway arches and the grand Devonshire House, this new cultural hub is set to become the hot destination for eating, drinking and most importantly… dancing in South London.
Alongside a whole host of food and drink businesses, the square will also house a theatre and a brand new music venue.
Bucking the trend for venue closures in the UK, OMEARA will open its doors within two of the arches this week. The brainchild of Mumford & Sons’ keyboardist Ben Lovett, the music venue also comes readymade with a wealth of musical credibility. And the line-up lives up to the hype so far. The Pretenders (which subsequently sold out in minutes), singer-songwriter Frances and unsigned indie band The Carnabys are on the bill for OMEARA’S opening months with a programme of club nights, talks and events still in the works.
The welcomed flexibility of the area also means there are no set closing times, giving OMEARA the freedom to cater for everyone, morning, noon and night. This 24-hour hub will also enjoy access to the Jubilee Line’s all night service on weekends and the newly opened ‘Low Line’, a pedestrianised walkway that connects Waterloo to London Bridge.
“Over the last few years, London has lost so many of its brilliant music establishments and I want to do what I can to try and reverse that decline. I’m extremely excited for OMEARA’s future and what it can do for London.”
With the support of the mayor too, Sadiq Khan said he was “delighted to see Ben Lovett opening an exciting new destination for live music fans”, there’s really nothing Flat Iron Square can’t do.
OMEARA opens it’s door on Wednesday 19th October
