Meet the Londoners | Foundation for Change

Throughout the past few months, we’ve met A LOT of people here at REVL HQ. The team have been out and about finding the best that London has to offer, just for you. And, lucky for us, we’ve had the opportunity to meet a whole host of talented peeps along the way. So, in response to our new pool of friends, we’ve decided to start highlighting some of the faces behind the brands, events, pop-ups, sales or stalls and champion them in this series. To kick things off, our Editor caught up with the ladies behind Foundation for Change, a HUGE charity beauty sale raising money for a very worthy cause.

Foundation for Change beauty sale

Oonah Anderson and Verity Cumming are the brains, and of course beauty, behind Foundation for Change, a charity sale happening tomorrow evening. Both fashion make-up artists, the London-based duo have been working in the industry for 5 years and regularly work together at fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris. The girls started working on the idea of a charity sale after seeing the distressing refugee situation in Calais whilst on their way to Paris Fashion Week. The contrast in circumstances struck a chord and grew into a need and a want to help. What started as a sale to be held in Verity’s back garden, has now turned into a takeover of Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club with a host of make-up artists, hair stylists and industry professionals on board. A worthy cause, all proceeds from the night will go to both Hand to Hand for Syria and UNHCR. We caught up with the girls to discuss the sale, the cause and the reasons why you should come along, all amongst a sea of products.

Where did the idea for the sale come from?

The initial idea came about when we were travelling to Paris for fashion week. It was around the same time the refugees crisis in Calais was particularly highlighted in the news. We both felt that it was extremely unfair to be travelling to France to work on all of these big branded shows whilst so many people were in such a desperate situation. We knew we had to do something to help, which was when we started looking to our resources. We realised we both had a lot of extra beauty products which has never been used and knew this was the same for most hairstylists and make-up artists. So we started collecting products from people in the hope we could resell and raise some cash to donate to the charities that are helping, and we’ve been doing pick-ups ever since.

What have been the biggest challenges so far?

The hardest part has probably been trying to fit it all in around work. And also making space for all of the products we’ve collected, both of our houses have slowly been taken over by mountains of donations.

What has the reaction been like from the artists you’ve approached?

We’ve had such an amazing reaction from everyone, and such generous donations. Many are now volunteering on the night too! Our initial idea was to just do a make-up sale in Verity’s garden with our friends, but as the response grew and the donations started coming in, we realised we needed to upscale the idea and get a bigger venue. And Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club offered us their space, which will allow us to really bring the whole evening together.

What should shoppers expect on the night?

There’ll be the main sale of all the make-up and hair products we’ve collected, with massive discounts on all brands. Prices start at £1! There’ll also be top-session hair stylists and make-up artists offering hair cuts, styling and make-overs for bargain prices too, perfect if you’re heading out straight after. The bar will be open too, and the venue has created a special charity cocktail with money being donated from sales, so make sure you drink up! Miguel Dare is DJing and we’ve got a raffle with hampers worth up to £500, dinner and drinks for 2 at Three Eight Four in Brixton and a taster course at the London School of Media Make Up all up for grabs.

Why should people come along?

It’s a great opportunity to get some amazing discounted beauty products whilst supporting a great cause.
